About Whizardries

Making the Arcane Simple

Who I am

I’m Mickey Chandler. I’ve spent 24 years in email, as a sender, as a postmaster, and as the person at a major email service provider who wrote and enforced the policies that determined what got delivered and what didn’t. That last role meant terminating clients who were unable or unwilling to fix the problems causing harm to other senders. It also meant understanding those problems in enough technical depth to tell the difference between a sender who needed help and one who needed to go.

I’m also a Texas-licensed attorney with CIPP/US and CIPM certifications and a separate law practice, Lex Protego PLLC, focused on privacy law and email compliance. Whizardries is the technical practice. Lex Protego handles the legal work. The two are separate engagements, separate billing, and separate scope, but they inform each other in ways that matter.

Why it matters

Most email problems are preventable. Most authentication failures are fixable. Most deliverability crises did not have to happen.

The causes are usually the same. Technical requirements get implemented in a hurry and never validated afterward. Permission practices look adequate on paper but never establish genuine consent. List hygiene gets deferred until delivery starts to suffer. Gradual drift in what gets sent erodes recipient expectations before anyone notices the damage.

I work through both the technical configuration and the program practices that determine whether that configuration holds up. The starting point is always an honest picture of where the program stands.

I’ll work with a program that has problems, including serious ones, if the organization is committed to addressing them. What I won’t do is help optimize a program that treats recipients as targets rather than people who chose to hear from you.

How I work

Every engagement starts with a free assessment: a focused conversation about where your program stands and what it needs. From there, all services are fixed-fee with clearly defined scope. No hourly billing, no scope creep, no surprises.

When an engagement surfaces legal questions, regulatory obligations, consent framework design, or multi-jurisdiction compliance, I refer to Lex Protego PLLC for qualified legal counsel.
